EnH2O Sp. z o.o. was represented by Mariusz Krużyński – CEO, Krzysztof Rozmysłowski – Head of Energy Affairs, and Henryk Denkiewicz – Head of the Power Grid Department. Bartłomiej Zosiuk, CEO of AT PROJECT Sp. z o.o., also attended the meeting.

The following representatives of the Institute of Power Engineering – National Research Institute (IEN-PIB) also attended the meeting: Michał Izdebski – Gdańsk Branch Director, Leszek Bronk – Deputy Head of the System Strategy and Development Department, Łukasz Kajda – Head of the Control Systems and Telecommunications Department, and Tomasz Ogryczak – Representative of the Institute Director and Head of the Power System Automation Department.

The visit was initiated by Tadeusz Daszczyński, KLASTER+ Project Manager.

Meeting at Siarkopol and EnH2O – 19 October

Presentations of Siarkopol, EnH2O and the KLASTER+ Project

The first meeting was hosted by “Siarkopol” Gdańsk S.A., a member of the PERN Group. Participants were welcomed by Jakub Papierski, CEO, who presented the company’s operations and its role within the PERN Group. Siarkopol provides cargo handling, storage and logistics services at the Port of Gdańsk.

Mariusz Krużyński, CEO, presented the activities of EnH2O Sp. z o.o. The company operates in areas associated with the Gdańsk Shipyard, where it also serves as an OSDn distribution system operator.

In the next part of the meeting, Bartłomiej Zosiuk, CEO of AT PROJECT Sp. z o.o., presented a concept developed for Siarkopol and EnH2O.

Tadeusz Daszczyński, KLASTER+ Project Manager, then presented the project’s concept, objectives and planned activities. The project focuses on developing the functions of a field controller operating at the interface between a microgrid and a distribution system operator’s network. The controller is intended to enable information exchange with the DSO and coordinate the operation of local energy sources, energy storage systems and loads in line with grid operating conditions.

Visits to Technical Facilities of Siarkopol and EnH2O

After the presentations, participants visited the Siarkopol Gdańsk cargo terminal. Rafał Cichosz, Head of the Process Utilities Department, introduced selected elements of the company’s infrastructure, including transformer substations and a water treatment facility.

IEN-PIB Research Activities, Technologies and Products

The meeting at the Gdańsk Branch of the Institute of Power Engineering – National Research Institute was led by Michał Izdebski, Branch Director. He presented the branch’s history, selected research achievements, technologies and products.

One of the achievements presented was the development and implementation of the GreenAVR excitation and voltage regulation system for a 1000 MVA generator at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant. The use of RTDS-HIL technology in the system’s development and testing was also discussed.

The discussions also covered energy transition challenges, including grid-forming technology, the anti-blackout package and dynamic line rating (DLR). Other topics included wind condition estimation, load-frequency control (LFC) and real-time simulations.

RTDS-HIL Laboratory

Participants also visited the RTDS-HIL laboratory, where the RTDS simulator is used to simulate electrical power systems in real time.

RTDS-HIL laboratory at the Gdańsk Branch of IEN-PIB Michał Izdebski introduces the KLASTER+ team to the RTDS-HIL laboratory at the Gdańsk Branch of IEN-PIB.

In a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) configuration, simulation models interact with physical automation, protection and control devices.

The laboratory visit was particularly relevant to KLASTER+, as the project includes verification of a physical field controller interacting with a microgrid model in an HIL environment.

Informal Part of the Visit

The KLASTER+ team also had an opportunity for informal discussions during walks and runs by the sea and in Gdańsk’s historic centre.

Summary

The two-day visit gave the KLASTER+ team an opportunity to explore how the KLASTER+ project objectives relate to industrial infrastructure, distribution grids operated by local OSDn, and research and technology development facilities at the energy research institute.
